Personally I'd advise against buying if they are inexperienced/beginner and recommend maybe leasing with an option to buy. They don't know what they don't know, how many horses end up getting sold off because it was a newbie owner that got too much horse, didn't like owning a horse, couldn't afford all the little expenses that add up etc. Get their feet wet, get their confidence up then ease into the water. As far as breeds go, one with four legs and a tail that they take someone with experience out to try out. Could be an arab or an andaappawalkaquartervarian, as long as it's a good fit breed is irrelevant.

That said *warning...hypocrite alert* my first was a 3 year old appy/arab that was a whopping 250 bucks that I saved up for from my paper route. He was batshit crazy and I was a horsemad kid that bounced pretty good when I bit the dust. I'd ridden maaaaaaaaaaaaaybe two dozen times in my life at that point, camp horses or hourly rentals, but lucked in to an excellent barn owner who took a stupid kid with a crazy horse and steered us away from the dark side. That horse ended up being amazing, he outlasted a husband and my wisdom teeth, I'd do it all over again if it wasn't for the healthy respect for gravity I've developed as I've gotten older. 4chsmu1
