Horrible stuff. I deal with it on the dogs I groom all the time. Friends of mine have had to take several of their dogs to the vet this year to get it removed from their dogs ears and even a piece in a dog's eye. I also had a client dog come in with it just packed and infested INSIDE of his feet so bad he could barely walk. I keep mine mostly indoors and we live in the city so it's not much of a problem for us. I'm not sure what can be done about getting rid of the stuff... Have you done a google search?

I did search it but not a lot of info with regards to horses. I'm curious if horses eat it. Usually horses (that are fed I should add) won't eat harmful or poisonous plants.

No they don't eat it & it ain't gonna hurt their legs, etc but it is really hard to kill & will take over a pasture if you don't control it or overgraze..

Do you know offhand what chemical you use to kill it?

You'd have to ask somebody that knows more but all I know of is Roundup & that will kill good grass to. It's dead here in NE now so it wouldn't do any good to spray & it puts out a zillion seeds that will come up next year..Burning is good if possible & I try to put brome seed in the spots. It is a fast growing cool season grass that will choke it out eventually...
