Sorry, should have mentioned that my bf had already been e-mailing him back and forth a few times asking about upcoming litters and such. So this wasn't this first time he heard from "us", just the first time he heard from "me".

None of the breeders we have contacted live locally to us, so I've wanted to ask a lot of questions before we make a big trip to go meet them and the dogs.

We're not looking for a show dog, just a "pet" dog, but I would like to make sure we are purchasing from a reputable breeder and someone that has solid breeding practices.

ETA: The main links on their website do not work, so I couldn't get past their main page. However, after looking further I found that they have some links on the bottom of the page that work.

Their website: http://www.trinitykennels.ca/index.html

He had already raised a couple flag for me in the e-mails between him and my bf. Such as the fact that had an "oops" litter, and that they required a $200 deposit upon application, and then they just assigned pups to owners according to who had paid their deposit. (**At least thats how it came across in the e-mail, he didn't mention matching the pups to the buyers).
