I love working dogs and herding dogs. I have no interest in a hound, terrier, or toy breed.
I love Samoyeds because of their temperament, lovely personality, the 'smile', and of course, how glorious they are in full coat. They are extremely intelligent, fun to be around, always in a good mood, and just lovely animals. The ancientness of the breed also drew me. There is no kinder, gentler dog than a well-bred Sammy. The breed has changed very little over the years, and many Sammy folks still do herding (albeit not reindeer herding) and sled work with their dogs. I prefer the Sam to other breeds like the Malamute and Husky because they tend to get along better in groups, and are a bit less hard-headed. Sammies are super-smart and easy to train as long as you make it fun.
I have Belgian Sheepdogs, too, because I love how devoted they are. Wonderful, loving personalities with a fun spirit and joi de vivre. The can be protective without being aggressive. Super-fun to train, ultra-fast learners, and very versatile. Love how they look, and they are very nice house dogs, too. Breeders strive for a dog that can go in the conformation ring in the morning and do agility and obedience in the afternoon. Main drawback to this breed is epilepsy; due to unscrupulous breeders in the past, the problem was covered up for years, and because of a limited gene pool (due to AKC classifying the three Belgian breeds as separate breeds rather than varieties) there are really no lines guaranteed not to produce seizures. An honest breeder is absolutely necessary to ensure you have the best chance of getting a non-seizuring pup.
I'd also someday like to have a nice Shetland Sheepdog and a Newfie.
