We had a few Brittanys growing up. One was a very nice house dog as long as he got plenty of exercise. I wish I'd had him when I was a bit older, as he would have made a fabulous agility dog. The other was a rescue (as in the vet clinic calls at 6 a.m. and says there's one tied outside to their fence with a 'find me a home or put me down' paper taped to her collar, so they called us knowing we'd had one in the past.) She was insane. She was the only dog I've ever put outside to live in a kennel because she was completely unsuitable as a house dog. Impossible to housebreak, very destructive, and dumb as a box of rocks. She was, however, a brilliant hunter. I gave her to a teenage boy as a hunting dog and they got along great. He lost her last year after they brought her indoors on an especially cold night and she, unbeknowst to them, ate several plastic grocery bags. She died during surgery to have them removed. She was a great example of a dog who was bred to do nothing but hunt, and as a result was so 'one track minded' that she was unsuitable as a pet.
