I usually don't helmet, but I know and understand the risk I am taking. I think novice horse people should wear helmets for two reasons - 1) They are learning something new and physical and everyone makes mistakes and sometimes gets hurt when they are doing that, and 2) They may not have the time and experience around horses to really understand what the risks are.

If Linda chooses not to wear a helmet, that is up to her, but I think instructing others not to wear one is the mark of a very poor teacher. When you are teaching someone it isn't about what you are capable of, it is about what they are capable of. Part of teaching is keeping people who are learning safe until they have the experience and skill to understand the consequences of the decisions that they make for themselves.

I think belittling someone who chooses to wear safety gear is the mark of a total ass, and there is no excuse for that.
