I always wear my helmet. I do not care if it is a dead broke 25 year old gelding I am getting on - I always wear it. Why? Because there is no such thing as a bomb proof horse - and no real horseman would ever say there was. It is not about fear or being a wimp as ddr would insist - but simply a bit of prevention. Pride goeth before a fall, ddr... you can sneer all you like but I would rather weed the vegetables than be one.

ddr - you are being a complete ass here. I do not care if adults choose to wear a helmet or not - that is their business and their choice and perfectly reasonable. But to mock helmet wearers as you do... is arrogant and ignorant.
Who knew you and Linda Parelli had something in common...

Many horsemen and trainers with far better horse sense and horsemanship than you have demonstrated at times have had serious head injures from riding accidents. Being a "professional" will not save you.

One cutting horse trainer was simply loping her mare in circles - the mare stumbled and fell on her side. The rider's head slammed into the ground.
Six weeks later she woke up from the coma - and will never be able to function normally. Her Resistol did not save her from head trauma. It would not have saved you, either. Just using that as an example.

I own an old blue helmet with a curved dent in it. I keep it as a reminder of What Might Have Been. That helmet saved me from serious head trauma.
Another horse I was on had the ground go out from underneath him up in the mountains, oh mighty ddr - amd even One As Pompous as yourself would have come off that horse hard. Thank God I had a helmet on.

Safety can be linked to some of the gear but ultimately the safety is in the decision making and that has to be learned.

And how does your superior decsison making *SNORT* take into account all the things you cannot control? The surroundings, weather, horses tripping/falling/stumbling... you cannot learn all of that...
