If your kids have expensive toys like those, one would imagine you could find means to fix a safety issue. IMHO.

One could probably find a used dryer that did turn off for $35 even.  I gave my older, but in good working condition, one away when I got a new washer & dryer.  Most people either give them away or sell them quite cheaply when they get new appliances.

Checking CL might be an option.
