^That reminds me. A friend of mine was engaged, but didn't have the ring yet. Ring finally arrived, so her then-fiancee took her out to dinner. He "knew" somebody would anonymously pay for their dinner if he proposed, so he did the whole down-on-one-knee thing even though he had already proposed to her and she had already accepted long before that night. He was right. They ate for free that night.

The worst part is that he was willing to admit that he did it for that reason. Pretty tacky, eh?

I think I'd probably be annoyed if my SO proposed in public, but I wouldn't hold it against him for long. We're both huge hockey fans, but I'd like to think he knows better than to ask me at a Red Wings game. I really do not enjoy being the center of attention like that.

I think I've scared out of asking me, period, though, so who knows
