Kind of a ridiculous concept because the is no way to uphold the agreement anyway. Once interest has been released, it's nothing but a courtesy.

I have a KMH mare I got with a first right of refusal clause to the previous owner. No way I'd ever honor it or consult her if I wanted to rehome her after the condition the mare came to me in. I think if the horse has had good care and the previous owner had the means, I would contact the but under these particular circumstances, I'd put a bullet in this mare myself before I'd let her go back to that hell hole.

I recently returned my QH mare to her previous owner due to some personal circumstances that required me to downsize my herd. She'd always taken good care of her so I gave her the option to take her back. She has a vested interest in finding her a good home and with all the hoops I had to go through to buy her I know her previos owner will not let her go to just anyone if for some reason she couldn't stay. The only reason she was sold in the first place was to help pay her daughter's college tuition and she hated to have to do it and was glad she could have her back again. I had several offers to buy the horse but then I'd be worrying about her fate not having the time to check a buyer out to my satisfaction. Not that I couldn't use the money with the mounting medical bills but some things are more important than money to me.

Less Bark, More Wag

For sure Roro, hiding in my  horses stall for hours under a tarp and waiting for her to come in and settle down to eat and then jumping out, bear hugging her rump and taking a bite out of it has never ended well for me... looking back on it, I think that was the start of me not being able to catch her... hind sight is always 20/20
