^I agree, something seems weird.

I can't imagine that a horse that is supposedly quiet enough to be kid-safe was at a trainer's for a month and never loped.

Brings to mind a horse my neighbor had. Sweet, sweet horse. Quiet, calm, unflappable. She brought him to my trainer's to be started, and judging by this horse's demeanor, everyone thought it would be no problem to get him going. That horse completely flipped out about saddling. It was the first horse my trainer ever had that ever acted that way. He tried several different things and different saddles and setups, and the horse would panic every time. He finally told her he could keep the horse and keep trying, or she could take him home, save her money, and work on getting him used to the saddle herself and then bring him back.

Kind of makes you wonder about this mare. But really, there's no harm in going to look at her.
