I have always been told a brown horse and a bay horse were different, genetically. That bay horses have black points, and browns do not. Ferrando is BROWN and he has NO black. It is dark brown/mahogany color. Am I wrong? (serious question)

They are different genetically, but browns can and usually do have black points. Id love to see pictures of Ferrando.
