I have occasionally thought that I am somewhere in between healthy and IBS, as the condition seems milder than full-blown IBS and comes and goes. On many mornings, though this seems to be improving lately, my intestines hurt for a few minutes. I also can get indigestion roughly 1-2 times per week or every couple of weeks which immediately gets better after I alleviate myself. Both of these symptoms have been less frequent than usual in the past month or so, I wonder if it is related to gut flora, and if I encounter these issues again if I should use some sort of probiotic.

Speaking of gut flora, I noted last year that every day in the Japanese student program (bunch of Japanese students come over to America for 10 days, I've mentioned it already), about 1-3 of them from my classroom alone, a group of approximately 12 people, would be in the bathroom with diarrhea or some other form of sickness. They did not have flu-like symptoms that I could discern. I wondered then if it was related to the differences in the microbial composition of the digestive systems in different countries.  I ate the food they were eating in their dormitories on one day and I was fine, as was every other American volunteer that I could keep track of.

"Just fire up a new window in your web browser for a moment and type in the word 'healing' under Google Images...see what I mean?  It's all colors, lights, hands butterflies, beatific expressions...

the reality of healing any living system is pain, swelling, itching, aches, exhaustion, and chaos."
