I'm kinda on the fence about the whole "fear mongering" thing. Because aren't the people most likely to listen to it for the wrong reasons the same ones who are likely unable to keep an intact female from being bred unintentionally? But I dunno. We've never had an intact animal (well aside from like hamsters/rats and even then some of my female rats were spayed) so I've no experience with them really. I don't think we speutered because "OMG all the bad things that will happen" but more so we did not want to deal with the extra trouble of an intact animal (nor would we be capable probably hah) I do know a lot more know than before about waiting an appropriate amount of time before speutering which I'm thankful for.
It's an interesting debate. Someone on another forum basically said how it wasn't fair for our animals to have to deal with their sex drive without being able to mate or something. I forget the entire argument. I thought it was interesting as I'd never thought of it like that before.
Also I don't think KOTJ is being irresponsible or stupid about this. She didn't say "Hey my dog is nesting other than spaying what can I do?". She asked for an opinion on behaviour, probably expecting or hoping someone would have a different reason for the behaviour and a fix that isn't spay.
But eh what do I know :P
