Oh this is a touchy subject for me. My brother and sister-in-law are Super Vegans. When they first started dating they were just vegetarian and much easier to tolerate. Over the years they've become more and more insufferable about it all.

They're incredibly self-righteous about it and have ruined many family occasions with their stupid, hurtful comments. I have been told I will die of cancer since I eat red meat. Oh, okay, good to know, thanks. We took them to see the horse when we first got him, and they asked me how long he is "stuck in his *cage* every day" and if we honestly think he's happy.

They look at us like we're disgusting for drinking milk because "it's for baby cows, not people" and they seriously won't even wear wool because "the sheep are so mistreated."

To take things even further, when I threw my SIL her baby shower, I had to put a little note on the invite stating that all clothes bought for the baby had to be 100% Organic Cotton. People were calling me in a tizzy because that shit's EXPENSIVE. Then, my mother went out of her way to make crib sheets (for the crib that has been in the family for over 100 years) out of all organic fabrics and the baby napped in it maybe once or twice.

Also, they live in a TINY 1 bedroom apartment with a 2 year old and another one is due in March. They pushed their full mattress up against my brother's very old (from when he was like, 12) twin mattress because they were too cheap to buy a Queen/King, and all three of them (soon to be four!) sleep together.

OMG. A bit of a tirade, sorry.

Then, on the other hand, I have a friend who has been a vegetarian since she was 10 or so and I always forget because she's so conservative about it. She doesn't shove it down anyone's throat or require the entire group eat at a specific restaurant for her one preference.
