Annie was a bolter outside of the arena. She never bolted me into fences but it was still very annoying. What helped me was a lot of skip-a-gait transitions and longeing at a walk to let her know I'm looking for her to relax and listen. Working the piss out if her never helped because when she is pushed to the limit she stops thinking. I want to be able to communicate with a horse that can actually process what I'm trying to teach her. But this might have worked for me because she was a "blown up barrel horse" and just needed to learn it was okay to not haul ass as soon as I step in the saddle.
