Also if you anticipate a spook coming on, or you are going through a scary area make sure you ride your horse through it with your legs on him. I find that a gentle back and forth massage with my legs, one and then the other, not only keeps him moving forward but seems to give him confidence/reassurance. I have blocked many a potential spook simply by reading my horse and the environment and knowing the exact moment to lay my leg on him. I have blocked my horse from spooking and spinning by using this technique and he is a spook-spin-bolt kinda spooker.
