The single most hardcore vegan I've ever met had a great phrase - "it's about doing the best I can every day"

It's sourcing your animal products from the farmer instead of the grocery store, using the whole animal, and appreciating the effort and sacrifice put in to your meal... Rather than crucifying someone for eating something with honey snuck into the ingredients list.

Didn't mean everyone in hearing range wouldn't hear about how X product was bad for animals, but he had a clear distinction between factory and backyard, but personally didn't believe in animal products.
