I got Cooper better on patterns out in the pen by himself, at least to a point that he's a good boy about it with his new kid, so yay! Being a giant weenie is his biggest downfall. I won't have any more goals with him, he's sold and I think he's in a good enough spot now that his kid can show him entirely herself.
My goal with Sketch this year was just to get going on showing, put some miles on him, see how he'd do. I was genuinely impressed with the range he's already showing! We'll always look a little silly next to those big HUS horses but he really tries
I'm really excited for next year, I should be able to start doing one-hand stuff which will make patterns and trail a little more doable. I'm hoping to start placing a lot higher in those classes now that he's gotten a few under his belt. I'm also hoping that he can make the transitions between different classes a little better now that he's getting more broke. He tried really hard last show, but it's difficult when he's just a 3 year old and I'm asking him to do showmanship then HUS then patterns and western and trail. He's going to be soooo cool when he's ready! I totally just clapped my hands like a little girl thinking about him :3
I've been really proud of Mitchell too. My goal with him was to get him more relaxed out on the trail and in the arena. He had gotten kind of butthurt with the kid that leased him, and he's gotten significantly better this year. He's still scared spitless of being ridden on the road with passing cars, but if I squeeze him as hard as I can with my legs he'll hold it together for me. He's gotten good enough that I can have my sister ride him with me telling her what to do and he does all right. I'm playing around with head gear on him to continue on the track we're on of being relaxed and responsive. He is very relaxed in a snaffle but he's heavy. He's responsive in a correction but not relaxed in a lope. I'm trying a smooth mouthed gag now, I think I like where I'm going with that. My goal for next year is just to continue on the track he's on, and find him a new person that understands his special little self. He's a good horse, you can't help but fall in love with him, but he just needs consistency and fairness and that can be hard to come by.
Didn't have any goals with Crabby Patty, but she gets to go under saddle in the spring. I think I need a whole 'nuther me.
Oscar met his goal this year of getting out and being seen and not leaving me behind anywhere. He's gotten way better about traffic, and has learned to control his ADD and anxiety much better. He's kind of a short bus horse, but he's pretty and eye-catching and big (well, big for me. I'm a shorty mcforty). My goal for him for this next year is to get good video of him and get him off to a new show home where he can continue to develop into a good citizen.
Tommy didn't have any goals really last year either, other than get going under saddle and get a little bigger. He's managed to do both, in fact he's super butt high again! Just a bit of a slow bloomer I guess. We even managed to successfully get him out in public without making fools of ourselves. I was actually pleasantly surprised with him, I just figured he'd scream his head off, but he was pretty chill about it, although he was disappointed I didn't let him go taste any of the pinto minis. Maybe someday. I'd like to see him get shown this next year. My trainer is the one heading him up, since he's going to be something pretty special.
