I have often wondered if the "specific helmet for a specific sport" thing is just hype to get us to buy more helmets. Same thing for the "new helmet every 5 years" thing.

HOWEVER, since your head isn't anything to take risks with, I abide by those rules 'til someone proves differently.

Haha. Thanks for starting this thread. I'm going to share it with my non-horsey fiance too. He told me if he ever starts riding he is just going to wear his motorcycle helmet cause riding helmets look too goofy. (I assured him wearing a motorcycle helmet on a horse would look even goofier!)


For about $65, you can get a Tipperary Sportage Plus which is JUST as cool as any racing bike helmet around. And for riding! Both my husband and son (who were both opposed to the look of traditional helmets) fell in love with this one.
