Hey, thanks you guys!! And thanks for your kind words, Jana. One of my employees at work thinks what I'm doing is mean. She thinks I should let them be "free" in our neighborhood. I love these cats - and I just can't do that....for all the reasons I listed in the O.P.
These are some great ideas - especially for the litter boxes. I think we are leaning towards a sandy area that is 4'x4' and sunk into the ground with sides built to give it support. My thoughts are that the urine would pass through and be absorbed....and I could scoop the poop (hubby is making me a poops scooper modified to be made of hardware cloth instead of tines that would be too wide for cat poo).
I actually have one more dog kennel (four panels that measure 4' wide by 3' tall) that can be attached....and used for the litter area. We'll see....I'm trying to give them as much space as I can.
Under the shelter, we plan to have two cat condos that I will be re-covering with the indoor/outdoor green carpet. They have lots of levels to lounge on. I am also making two shelves made of the hardware cloth as Baker likes to lounge on top of the chicken coop that is covered with this....I think it lets him be as cool as possible.
Kuvasz - yes, we are going to bury the fence about an inch, but then we will use r.r. ties along the interior of both the privacy fence and the metal fence to make sure they don't find any gaps. I still haven't looked at your links, but I'm going to look tonight.
Now that I have some time...here are a few pictures of the barn kitties -
Here is my beloved, Baker -
And this is Olivia -
And her sweet sister, Gracie -
Ask me about my Papillon puppy, Magnolise Avec Bravissimo (aka Bravo)!!!
