Thanks, guys - for both the kind words/encouragement and the great ideas. I knew I could get some here!!
Jordie - I agree with you! I can't stand stray or outdoor cats running loose in our neighborhood - they pee on cars, scratch the hood, and poo in lawns. Everyone in our neighborhood is considerate, and we don't have a loose cat population. In fact, over by our Rec Center are two fenced "dog runs" that are used if you find a loose pet (even a cat)' You can put the pet in there with water and they (HOA) will post on FB & web site about a found pet. If no one claims the animal in 24 hours, the Humane Society (or whatever) is contacted.
We live in South Florida, so our biggest "hurdle" is giving the cats lots of options for staying dry (and cool in the summer). This year was one of the hottest on record....and we haven't had a freeze here in more than 2 years.
The things we will be tackling this weekend are: burying the fence just a bit and putting down the landscaping posts all around the bottom edge, building the sand/litterbox pit, and putting in the support posts that will hold the hardware cloth roof in place. I think this is all we will have time to do.
I'll post more pictures of our progress on Sunday.
Ask me about my Papillon puppy, Magnolise Avec Bravissimo (aka Bravo)!!!
