Two days after Bree showed up she got colicky. Never even started sweating, but she was in obvious discomfort, shifting weight, up and down, refusing water, urinating frequently and trying to urinate often with no success.


It's very scary. I think she may have been still nursing when she came and the sudden change gave her a tummyache.

Another food good for horses prone to colic is freshly ground fenugreek seeds. It can help them put on weight too. I just started Bree on it. I'm starting her with a tsp in her food and gradually upping the dosage by the week.

Besides helping with colic, it helps increase absorption in the digestive tract so it can help hard keepers gain weight.

One GRAS herb good for gassy horses is peppermint.
