Ditto on what people said about cedar - not good for anybody's tummy. Blankets and even small items that don't need hanging (a box of brushes, for instance) could be neatly stored there. I wouldn't put non-refrigerated meds in there, just to be safe.

I use metal trash cans for feed, as the mice can't gnaw through them and they don't rust sitting up on low wooden shelving under a roof. Of course there are multiple closed doors and gates between said trashcans and hungry livestock. Mice can chew through plastic bins but it might take a while.

The hay is in an old mobile home that possums can't get into, but mice do - I regularly see empty snake skins in with the bales. Works for me, and I just don't put my hands in places I can't see. Heh. I once picked up an open metal can that had a rat snake coiled up inside it. ACK!!! *throws can*
