I was going to suggest a strand of Hotwire/Tape also. That's about the only thing I can think of that will keep them off the fence the best. Only one of my horses at home doesn't chew and never has, and that's our old mare. For the others I've tried every sort of bad-tasting stuff available, including hot sauce and the commercial stuff like no-chew, and it didn't work at all. Maybe when it was still fresh, but once it dried (like 10 minutes later...) they'd be right back at it. None of ours have ever become cribbers. Chewing seems to be one of the most common stable vices, I think. It seems like out of the many horses I've been around, there wasn't many who didn't chew at all. As a matter of fact, I think the only one I know for sure who doesn't is our old mare. Any other horse I can think of has, at the very least, been a chewer.

Luckily, ours are outside most of the time now and our fences are electro braid so they don't chew much anymore. I've found for ours it seemed to just be boredom, though for the horse in question it could very well be stress/ulcers also.
