If he were human he'd probably be chewing his fingernails. Missing the only place he's known for 11 yrs. Unless he was hauled a lot to shows or trails it's going to be a big adjustment. Good luck. My old mare only chewed during the winter when she chose to stay under her cover. Never turned into anything else and she had a cribber on one side and a weaver on the other.

Edited to add, she did denude an overhanging branch one year, same branch had been there for 6+ years, the new horse next to her chewed the bark from another branch, I think she was just experimenting.  Once the other horse was gone she left them alone.  Rascals.
