I can vouch for slow feeders helping with a wood chewer IME. For my horse I imagine it's a combination of boredom and a more sensitive digestive system. The slow feeder helps with feeding and keeps his mouth occupied, which seems to be a thing for him.

Good to know. We are installing slow feeders this year and I was hoping it would help with Constantine's wood chewing. He also constantly needs to occupy his mouth, but gets board with toys after a day or two.

Unless your slow feeder is made of wood. Mine seem to like chewing on the wood whenever they get bored. Buy a hay bag one or a plastic one - I have http://www.systemfence.com/product/00/16-825/Slow-Hay-Feeder and I'm happy so far with it. Easy to put together and pretty sturdy for plastic. The grate is a little hard to get in and out... but that is also a plus as the horses can't get it out like they can in my home made ones!
