I probably shouldn't even comment, because I'm tired, it happened before I was born, and I don't have the energy this evening for any kind of argument. That said, both my mom and a very good friend of mine both believe that JFK's assassination is when everything changed in this county. I've talked to both of them extensively about it. Both say that there was a definite sense of "innocence lost." Maybe that's naïve, but they were there and I wasn't. My mom mentioned to me once her surprise at my cynicism as a teen, she said she never had that and I do think it's a "newer" outlook. While I don't believe in all conspiracy theories (like the 9-11 crap), I certainly believe that the government does/knows a LOT of shit they don't tell us about. Including JKF, Roswell (maybe), cloning, the insurance industry, the oil industry, etc. I get the sense that prior to the assassination, and I'm sure this is a gross oversimplification, that things just weren't questioned like they are today. Some of that surely has to do with media and instant access to information via television, the web, etc. But it does seem like JFK, MLK, and RFK kind of rocked things, and it can't go back.
