ummmm was working on the lope with my first horse. His idea of a lope was a full throttle gallop. He detested going slow and would lean on the bit until he had enough rein to duck and buck like crazy. He would spin and buck too. I was 12 and had only been riding a few months before getting him and I just recently gotten him at this time. Instructor yells to "do that gait between a trot and mach 10. mach 4 or 5 would be nice" I distinctly remember taking a deep breath, closing my eyes, and grabbing mane before asking for the lope. 3/4 of a lap later instructor was grabbing the reins and stopping the horse. He then says, "you can fall now" as I have lost both stirrups and slid half out of the saddle. Oh I miss that horse.
