I had a lady interested in a TB mare I was selling. I had been working her Dressage, but she really wanted to be doing jumping. That's where her heart was.

So I arrange a time for the lady to come out and ask her not to bring an "entourage" as we live on a farm and people tend to think farm=daycare. So, of course she shows up with 3 kids that start wandering off to every dangerous part of the place (creeks, barn w/spiders, etc.)

So I ask again what she's looking for. She has been out of riding a while and wants to get back into eventing. She wants to do eventing. Great, this horse is a great horse for someone wanting to start again, get some low level jumping completed, etc. before buying a 20,000 dollar horse to really compete in the major level on.

I always offer to ride a horse I'm showing first as that is something I like to see what I am horse shopping. So, I hop on and we walk/trot/ and then canter both ways, showing off her beautiful walk/canter transitions, she even got the right lead both ways and was just an ANGEL. I was so proud of her.

The lady then procedes to tell my she is too much horse and she doens't even want to get on. Wow. And you want to do eventing? Have fun with that. You are NOT going to find a quieter horse that can jump. I helped her take her stuff back to her van, then emailed later thanking her for coming out and I suggested that perhaps she might find her best choice right now to be taking lessons as getting her confidence back, then perhaps leasing a horse until she is ready to buy a real eventing horse. I never heard back.

The mare ended up selling to a 14 yr old, that's how "scary" she was. THey jumped in 4H all summer and had a great time.
