Copy of the driver's license? I'm sorry, but I don't think I'd be ok giving a copy of my driver's license to someone who wanted me to come look at their horse. It would seem shady in this world of identity theft ...

Selling horses is a pain. I know someone who once had a horse that required an EXPERIENCED RIDER ONLY, as in he was a BAD BAD thinker but someone who was careful could get along with him. Super talented, could do some winning in the right hands. Well, they had their share of "Oh, but my kid has been taking lessons for three years! I'm sure she can handle him" and he did the right thing and didn't even let them come see the horse. When he finally found a home, it was with a trainer. In the sale contract, they stipulated that should the horse be sold, it had to be sold to someone of comparable experience level ... but less than a year later, they saw the horse advertised on a major sporthorse website as "amateur or child ready". The trainer claimed he "fixed" everything that was wrong (um ... lobotomy? How?) and was hoping the contract wasn't in ironclad legalese.

That didn't work out and they got the horse back. It's now a happily retired pasture ornament.
