My mare used to be terrible about biting me when I would bend over to grab the straps for her blanket. She had great timing, and perfect aim. I would slap her every time, and make a huge noise, then go back to doing what I was doing. It really didn't phase her. She's a 1200lb monster, and I'm human. Someone suggested taking the bristle brush we use to clean the BBQ, and when she bit me, smack her on the nose with it. I thought, OMG that's awful!!! I am not going to do that. One day she nailed me friggen good. I had a huge lump, green, black, blue, purple, yellow, icky bruise. The next night I used the bristle brush, drew 3 pin pricks of blood, and she hasn't tried it again. I still feel bad about it, but it worked.

Sounds cruel, but we really can't hurt them by smacking them.

She's also food aggressive sometimes. I have learned to just feed her through the panels. She gets in trouble still for being a bully about it, but it's easier for both of us to just feed her and let her be.

A lot of horses just have little quirks that it is just easier to find easy ways to deal with um instead of starting big fights with them trying to change things that really ain't a big deal......
