If she was putting up posters, telling people on messageboards, putting the URL on her facebook page... that's the sort of advertising they wouldn't have a problem with.

If you made up your own Nike T-shirts and started selling them, sure, it's technically advertising (anywhere Nike can get their name is good for them)... but they wouldn't want you to be making money off of their name.

The difference is that Nike would either overlook it because it's so insignificant, or they would be able to sue you because I'm sure their brand is really well protected.

Cathy probably wouldn't be able to do anything about it... but I don't think it's unreasonable for her to not want other people to profit from her hard work.
