GM - here is a picture of the mane bags "in action" on Bronwyn. My mom developed the pattern because she has such a long, lush mane, and it always needs to be braided or it gets big mats in it. I "retired" the mane bags for the summer (I found it was less hot on her neck where she's a big, fat, black horse, if I kept her mane in a running braid but as soon as the days even out a little bit, we'll go back to it).

Basically, you braid the mane in eight sections, and slide the braid into the bag, tying it at the base of the braid, then you double up the bottom, which has tags to tie with as well and tie into the base of the braid as well. I've never had her rip one out or anything. They need to be redone about every week for her because her mane is so heavy.

Wmerrick, I'm going to PM you my mom's email address so you can get in touch with her and see about pricing for different sizes and which fabrics she has enough to make hoods out of.
