I the last time I only asked for about 10 strides out of him before I slow him down to a trot, the problem is I can't even get him to canter that long without having to give him the boot. He'll drop back to a trot after one stride if I'm not constantly after him. Also when I give him even a slight cue to drop back to the trot he hits the brakes and comes to a complete stop. I don't even care if we get 10 strides, I just want him to go back to a trot when I say we are going to go back to a trot, not when he wants. If I stop getting after him to go forward, he'll slow down, if I lean back and actually give him a cue to slow down, he SLAMS on the brakes.

I just lunged him today, and you honestly wouldn't believe it was the same horse. He had a nice brisk walk, and all I had to do was slightly tilt my head and give very little movement of the whip and he'd move into the next gait. No buck. The barn owner watched the rodeo the night before couldn't believe it. I'm going to sweet talk my boyfriend into getting on him and see if he gets the same result. As long as I don't mention "buck", it shouldn't be that difficult...... lmao
