Racism, black people/hispanics doing dog fighting, racism discriminating against owners, because it's publicized/most of the stories you hear, it's always a 'black' or 'mexican' owner, and it's emphasized.

Next thing:
If we're forced to do this with our pitbulls, what next? When will it 'stop'? When will enough be enough? will they do bulldogs and boxers next? Both are 'fighting' dogs by reputation, or by poor stereotype. Rotties? if they make us chip our pitbulls, then what else will we be forced to do, next? What guidelines will be in place so that it's not an abuse of power?

Good questions, actually. There's a lot of knee-jerk responses when it comes to doing anything with pitbulls!
I'm not proposing we ban Pitbulls, merely microchip them. A very simple, nearly painless procedure. It's actually in the best interest of the owner to chip their pet pit, since it could be targetted for theft. Also, if a pet pit gets lost and ends up at the pound, it would save her/him from the euthanasia list, as pits and pit crosses are often the first ones euthanized at over-crowded shelters. I would suggest dog owners of any breed should microchip their pet in case it should get lost or stolen.

At this time, I'm only discussing pitbulls because they're the most commonly fought breed and also the most commonly feared. Proposing legislation like this would ease the fears of the public around the breed. Eventually they'd know that when they saw a pitbull, it would most likely be a pet pet, from pet pit lines.
