My TB cribs. She picked it up when we had to board her and she was kept in too much. She will do it no matter how much she is worked. She rarely does it in the pasture and does mostly when eating or given a treat. the Miracle Collar does seem to work, but to be honest, it bothers me to leave it on her. She doesn't lose weight and is not hard to keep weight on. She's been treated for ulcers, but it doesn't stop the behavior. I think it is more of an OCD thing and may be even self soothing. I do think their is a component of trying to calm stomach acidity since the cribbing increases with grain and treats. More oats and grass hay and less sweet feed and alfalfa and, of course, turnout. In my opinion, trying to stop it could cause more problems for the horse than just dealing with it. Oh and none of my other horses do it so don't worry about other horses picking it up from watching yours----that's not how it works. It is an annoying habit, but if it makes her feel more content or just better overall than so be it I guess!
