You can go pretty cheap with the pads if you want. I swear by baby pads too, but that may be an extra expense you don't need. They are real thin and go under the regular thicker pad and are easy just to throw in the wash, much easier than thick pads. An all purpose sized pad should fit your saddle well. My saddle is too forward flap for A/P sized pads

I don't do leg protection/boots unless there is an interference issue (hitting one leg with the opposite). But if you want to be sure, basic splint boots would probably be best and easiest. Wrapping polos can be difficult. Don't do too tight or too loose. Always made me nervous!

Well you guys will probably be taking things real slow based on both of your "conditioning" Your riding muscles are out of work and so our hers. Sometimes that's a good match.
