Monoveros, roaching would be ok since you only plan on going to local, SCHOOLING shows. You're not competing against people from all over the nation so it shouldn't matter...besides, as long as the horse looks neat, well-cared for/well-prepared, and workman-like, that should work.
Said hunter riders would look very out of place in the schooling shows here. Roached manes really aren't a good look for a hunter, and if braids don't look good on your horse you need to do some conditioning to make their neck muscles stronger. As for "Just because YOU are a hunter 'princess'" comment, well, yes, I am, and the OP asked for opinions on "fashion faux pas". I believe I do have some say in the matter.
