we had a horse with about 1/5 of his tongue missing from a pasture injury. It was a giant chunk out of the front on one side. He was a thoroughbred that never even made it to the track - too big and too slow (that's how we love thim!). He got him from a breeder in Iowa that used to call us up when she had a nice young horse that would never work on the track, but he was the only one we went for. My mom trained him to about 3rd level, but only showed him to second. His tongue was never an issue in his training (although we always used a very mild snaffle). Now he belongs to a 60-something lady, who he packs around, and her daughter. Apparently they love him! From what I've heard, he goes really strung out and pokey, but he is a kind packer and that's all that matters! Oh, and he has an awesome name - Drambuie
