Ah! Thank you for clearing that up! I do understand the concept of elitism - and as you said, it can be applied across the board to all disciplines of riding. I also think with young people overall, the perceived stability isn't just limited to the hunter world or even just the horse world. The way you describe your home environment is very similar to mine and riding became the stabilizing force in my life. But even back then, I knew right from wrong and knew full well the choices I made had direct effects upon my life and the lives of others. Then again, when I was that age, the whole anonymity of the Internet was a non-issue. I also fully believe that some young people have had the experience to back up what they say. I know at times when I was younger I had more experience than many of my peers and had to deal with some of the older crowd not listening to me or berating what I said because of my youth.
