Must be in the name, my gelding is named Jordy too, and the rest of the herd quickly learned not to mess with him. We've moved a lot, and in every herd he's been in he has been the dominant one from the first day on. But he acts the same way to other horses as HereInFlnow describes. He will attack horses on the other side of the fence if they even get close to the fence. I was also afraid of turning him out together with other horses, but when we did, he acted different. He does want to be the leader, but he is social. He doesn't constantly bully the other horses around, and he plays with the others, grazes side by side and so on. Until they question his authority, but even then it doesn't get dangerous, most of the times it's enough if he just arches his neck and paws at the other horse and rears. He hardly ever kicks with his hind legs. His behavior towards other horses gets worse if he is separated from the others for a long time, and gets better in a group. He's in a herd of geldings and stallions now, and that works well. He can also be in a groups with only mares besides him, but absolutely can't be in a mixed group with stallions/gelding and mares.
