I've got a couple, but I'll just share one from a couple of years ago.
I was a member of a horse related forum that shall remain nameless and there was this poster that truely deserved to end up on Jerry Springer or something. Every week, it was a new drama llama to ride around, but everything seemed believeable. Her husband was abusive (a fact that was verified by someone that knew her in person) so a lot of people felt sorry for her. So it comes around Christmas time. Supposedly, said abusive husband had taken all of the four children's presents back to the store for the money and bought himself something nice and expensive. Now there was no money left to buy presents for the children. The forum members were all very sympathetic and started a paypal for her so she could but presents for the kids. The end total was close to $700-800. No thank yous, kiss my ass, nothing from this woman. She just disappears. She even stops talking to the poster she knew in real life.
The other poster finally gets a hold of her months later and finds out that the whole thing was a lie. The husband never got refunds on the presents. The kids had a nice christmas without the paypal money. What happened to that, you ask? She bought a horse.
Once she was outed, she came back and tried to post a bunch of different excuses, including a whopper that her husband felt guilty and rebought all of the presents, and since she had the money anyway, why not treat herself? After all, she was abused and all. After being thoroughly flamed, she disappeared again until earlier this year with new drama that she was automatically called on.
It was crazy.
