Lovely stories! Thank you! I'm always fascinated by childhood dreams and wishes and how they change.

I suppose I should admit at this point that like many little girls I read King of the Wind (a book about the Godolphin Arabian, by Margeurite Henry) when I was about 7 or 8 and from then on my dream was to have a 'beautiful fiery chestnut Arab stallion'. Unlike most little girls, I failed to grow out of this, and it was still my dream when I finally bought my first horse when I was about 23. Yup, you guessed it: my sensible choice for a complete novice owner was, er, an unbroken 4yo chestnut Arab stallion! It all worked out OK, believe it or not.

I still haven't managed to grow out of my King of the Wind stage, and am now on my second 'beautiful fiery chestnut Arab stallion' - who really is my dream-horse (he even looks like I remember the illustrations in that damn book)!imageimage

And the moral of this story is...do not let your young daughters read King of the Wind! Unless you want them to end up like me!imageimageimage

ETA - I told this story to a friend, who made me this photo of my boy, complete with 'fiery' background LOL!:
