I live close to SA and have always been told to avoid Alamo tack. They used to make and sell tack very comparable to the cheap Mexico saddles you could pick up in Nuevo Laredo for $100. Their quality may have improved but my opinion would be to avoid it, save money, and buy a good one.
I made the mistake of buying a "cheap" $800 reining saddle from D&D Farm and Ranch. At the time, I thought I was getting a great deal. When I bought it, my 2 youngsters were still a year away from riding so I saddled them every now and then but the saddle stayed in the tack room. Once I started really using it, I discovered that it tilts off to the left on every horse I've put it on. I even started mounting from the right in hopes that it would help a bit. I'm convinced that the saddle itself is built unbalanced. Moral to the story... I should have waited, saved up, and bought a good one.
