A few tips for driving on an icy road that I learned the hard way:

-Be very careful hitting the brakes, if it's really slick, or you hit black ice at all, the brakes can make you fishtail and slide/lose control
-If you can feel the car start to slide, LIGHTLY pressing down on the gas can help you regain some traction and control
-Don't press brakes steadily, pump them instead ( my little blue car had no antilock breaks...)

Driving in snow can be fun, it makes very ordinary roads a lot more exciting*
