Michael and I and ponehs spent christmas at 7IL Ranch camping and trailriding!
It was so much fun!!!
I have a friend that rides endurance & she wanted a prime camping spot for the ride on the weekend following christmas so she let us stay in her trailer from xmas eve til saturday in exchange for looking after her horses while she was gone visiting family. This was our first outing with our horses--Firefly is still 3yo & only been ridden off home property on one other occasion and Scooby is the new addition-purchased just before thanksgiving!
We rode 4 miles on xmas, 7 the next day and completed a 12.5 mile intro ride for endurance on saturday. Both horses were fairly well behaved even though they were both affected by the excitement the day of the endurance ride. We had a few spooks but noone got dumped--apparently armadillos & yellow caution tape can eat horses-LOL!
Firefly being the very first horse I have ever trained made momma very proud cuz she really took care of me out there--anytime she couldn't see Michael & Scooby behind us she stopped & waited--the caution tape never bothered her 'til she realized it bothered Scooby--I could get her to look at it but she refused to touch it-she has limits you know.
When we stopped along the trail for breaks I didn't have to hobble or tie her, she just grazed 'til I was ready to go again. However, when the real endurance riders past us she thought she had to trot or canter to keep up with them so she was a bit hot on that day-which was so hilarious--such a lazy horse--yet competitive!
Scooby irritated Michael by walking off repeatedly when he tried mounting, but once they were past that he was a champ out on trail-a little lazy and stubborn, but a good hubby horse! Very sure footed and quite content to just follow the mare wherever and at whatever pace.
Good Luck finding your hubby horse and pleez post pics for us!
