I agree, to a point, Arabians.
While her ONE replacement horse is just a drop in the bucket, and most likely she'll keep it forever, what if she doesn't?
What if she decides that the one replacement foal wasn't enough?
I used to frequent that forum and try to give people my opinion on what their best bet would be in breeding choices. I tried never to comment badly about their horses, but I would suggest stallions/mares that would compliment them the best.
And I got tired of it.
There are SO many people out there breeding rationalizing it this way, and many other ways, that it's ridiculous.
If she wants a replacement, fine.
But my advice would be to breed her to the VERY BEST stallion she can afford, or don't breed her at all.
And my other advice would be to attend 5 auctions before she chooses to breed her mare. That way, she'll have a sound idea about what horses go through, and she possibly could have found a suitable replacement without making that older mare have another baby.
A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep.
