Athena, I hope you don't mind if I address this question, although I hope others give their opinions as well.

From my experience and observation, stallions (and mares, too) who "stamp" their foals have very intense linebreeding or inbreeding somewhere in their pedigree (which reinforced the type to begin with) that allows that dominance in type to continue. That influence is usually along the mare line, although some horses are products of a specific linebreeding program (such as Wiescamp). In their case, the pedigree is linebred throughout with the same results. A horse like that will continue to be influential until a stronger pedigree than theirs comes along and influences the result of the mating, or in the case of those without the strength in the mare line, dilution of the type begins to take place after several generations.
