Weight gain: Equine Senior, free choice hay, soaked grass hay pellets, SLOWLY worked up to a 1/2 cup of oil

Cribbing: You can't fix it. Ever. Cribbers are like heroin addicts, they're going to do it anyway and there's not a whole lot you can do about it. If you put a collar on them you're just going to frustrate them and make them unhappy. Some horses can even crib with the collar on, and the minute you take it off, they're back to cribbing. I'd just put the horse into a place he can't ruin and just let him do it.

Most important piece of tack: Halter and lead rope. Seriously, I catch, tie, hold, handle, and can even ride in it. I'd be super pissed if I lost it and it's the only thing I'd run out right away and buy a new one if anything happened to it.
